san juans.
motorsailed up to spencer spit in the san juans this weekend with my grandparents. it was an pea soup adventure as we motored through fog most of the way with the help of the radar. whew. Linda got lots of first hand experience running and reading the radar. there were a few harrowing minutes when a *large* ship (that we were expecting and could hear... but couldn't see) appeared like a ghost crossing our path less than a quarter mile away. it is alot closer than it sounds when you are trying to miss a small mountain. at spencer spit linda and i motored ashore in the dinghy and explored a bit (and used the very clean facilities). The spit was homesteaded and owned by the spencer family until the 60's when they gave it to the state. lovely lovely lovely. we motored around frost island before heading back to Indian Summer for the spaghetti dinner i made and linda served. good times.
about 9 hrs each way. I would have to consult with russ about exact # of miles but it was about 60 each way. I will post some picture and maybe some movies when i dowload this evening.
